When in 1995 a group of people led by Mr. Argyris Gkisas decided to establish a club dedicated to promoting mountaineering, they could never have imagined how far the Thasos Mountaineering Club would go or how significant an infrastructure it would create.

Over the years, THAS.O.S. grew, overcame difficult situations, matured, and is now able to look toward the future with optimism. A living example of this progress is the realization of one of its biggest dreams: the construction of its own mountain refuge through voluntary work  mainly by Mr. Panagiotis Panagiotou  with the support of friends, members, and the Municipality of Thasos.
